I’ve bought lots of new shiny games but still really only played 3 games this year - Frostgrave, Bolt Action, and Zombicide.

— Brent Brent S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/02636654999018237130noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3058258817691018841.post-85968151051845421352017-12-15T07:14:05.793-07:002017-12-15T07:14:05.793-07:00Thanks for the comments! Thanks for the comments!Roberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01446782807978825841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3058258817691018841.post-54049789984195133662017-12-15T02:07:28.428-07:002017-12-15T02:07:28.428-07:00I know the challenge of being an older gamer. I had hopes that the scheduled days would help, but it was really only you, Tom and I. Very hard to get traction behind a game when everyone is all over the place.

As for the online community, your spot on once again, all the forums I would go to have all dried up, no discussion or any real activity going on. I still frequent LAF and there is still lots going on over there, but that's about it. Most folks have moved onto Facebook groups and it is extremely hard to stay current with them, heck the Necromunda site has so much being posted you miss lots of stuff.

As for the blog, I just have not even been into updating mine, it just seems like to much trouble and I get no traffic. As much as the social media has become easier to use, it seems like it is harder to follow.

All of this is why I dabble with model railroading now, it is much more a solo hobby then gaming.
Tim Kulinskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15556960285841667223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3058258817691018841.post-73932025292284789862017-12-14T08:02:21.322-07:002017-12-14T08:02:21.322-07:00Thanks for the feedback guys! I will probably continue with the blog abut it will likely be much less often than in the past unless I start moving my Tweet activity back to the blog. We'll see I guess. I have lots of thinking to do before the new year. I need to get my mind right about what I want to be doing with the hobby.Roberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01446782807978825841noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3058258817691018841.post-6523829756984310912017-12-14T06:08:53.361-07:002017-12-14T06:08:53.361-07:00I get where you are coming from Robert. I plan to keep doing my blog, but feel no pressure to do so because of the lack of feedback as you point out...at this point I do it just for me really.

As for the number of games I am right there with you. I would like to trim down/focus, but that leads to hard decisions on what to set aside and I am not ready to make those calls because that could mean not gaming with some friends because they play only certain games. The problem I see with Facebook is too many different groups and subgroups just making it too hard to have a collective place for communication. 2017 has been an exciting year and Im sure 2018 will be just as exciting and more distractions. Yeah, you have... a lot ...See - real live comment. Yeah, you have... a lot of games. I'm guilty of buying and shelving (because it might go out of print!), but I've been able to keep my number of games low. Average number of armies per game is something I still have to control. I just wish I liked painting better. I like assembly - but I'm allergic to the glue so it quickly turns into a two-three day sneezing fit when I do assembly. And as I've gotten older, hours and hours of painting just plain hurts. Plus finding time when you have grown-up responsibilities soaking up all your hours is a challenge. I like having painted stuff though, and am very reluctant to put it on a table if it isn't painted. Which means I generally don't play much at all. So I share a lot of those woes.

I agree that the online gaming community saps a LOT of my enjoyment of the game, not so much for the repetitiveness of Facebook though. There is just so much negativity (discussions of which units suck, complaints about what armies/systems are "broken" and "unbeatable," etc.) and people wanting hand-holding about power-gaming their lists (Unit x - must take?, help me make a spammed tournament list, etc.) It's not limited to Facebook; I see it on the forums too (not so much the blogs). It just sucks the enjoyment out of the hobby for me.

I want to see good battle reports (as opposed to half-assed ones), preferably with tactical analysis of the choices being made, conversations (as opposed to complaints) about tactics, and pictures of people's awesome paint jobs to inspire me. If you're going to complain about a unit, do it by asking for better ways to use the unit, not by just saying how much it sucks.

That's what I'd like to see in 2018.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11779446895154364902noreply@blogger.com
