Star Wars Gaming

OK, I admit it, I am a bit of a Star Wars geek.  I have loved it since I was a kid but I have managed to avoid becoming one of those guys that dressing up as a character and goes to the convensions.  I have also avoided the collecting a ton of useless, but extremely cool, Star Wars crap.

One thing I have always wanted to do is Star War miniature gaming.  I started this idea with the old Star Wars role playing game but that was not going to work.  Then there was the clicks stuff but that didn't seem to get me interested.  But now I have found something that just migh push me over the edge.

Check this out!  That is so freakin cool!  And here is a set of rules that looks really quick and easy!  I might be able to get the kids to play this.

This is an excellent Old West game setup. This is almost inspirational enough to get me to start on yet another project.

Thinking About Necromunda

It has been a very long time since I have played or even thought about Necromunda. I have been very focused lately on my World War II game project. Every once in a while I take a break and play WAB or maybe Lord of the Rings. Necroumnda has not been in my game rotation for about 3 years and that is just sad. It still rate it as my favorite game which makes it even worse that I have not played in so long.

Tim and I were talking the other night about why we don't play this game and we decided it was due to the fact that we don't have any cool terrain. Necromunda is really a modelers game. It take very few models which means that you can spend more time customising your game and just having fun. The game does require lots of ruined urban/industrial terrain which presents and infinite number of modeling opportunities. A few years ago Tim and I built some very nice terrain for Imperial Outpost Games - http://robert.bluedream.com/Necroterrain%20album/index.htm - and soon after we stopped playing. It was too much trouble to have to go to a shop for the terrain. We, however, never got around to making any for ourselves. I think that it is time to fix that.

Over the last couple of days I have been looking online for some inspiration and here a few interesting links:

Cool site with near future figs and terrain.

Eastern Fringe Forums. This is the best Necromunda related forum site I have found. It has been too long since I have spent any time here.

Fringe Wars. This is a collection of stats for using other 40K forces in Necromunda. The game really has possibilities as a general Sci-Fi skirmish game.

Necromunda Home. This is the Specialist-Games site where you can download the rules and some cool extras.

Grav Board rules. This is an old site that has rules for using grav board gangs. I forget who make figures for this. I know Mark Copplestone makes skateboarders...

Net Terrain. This site has been around for a long time and I am glad to see they are still posting new material. Some very interesting and inspirational terrain projects.

One of the things I really love about the Necromunda is how easy it is to use for things other than what it was designed for. I created a World War II variant that my local game group played for a long time. We have also played using any sci-fi figures we could find and just selected stats for them. I think this is a great set of rules for anything from zombie infestations to Space Hulk. It is time to get back into it.

I will post up my house rules as they are developed.

The East Rail District

This is my new favorite model railroad - http://www.lancemindheim.com/

I love the modern, gritty, nature of the model. The detail is amazing without being overstated. This is what I want to build.

This is a great collection of photos of mostly 28mm WW2 games. This is what 28mm WW2 should look like on the game table. I have yet to achieve a look at this level but I am still trying. Very good stuff!
