Steel Legion Army For Sale

I have a very large and very nice Armageddon Steel Legion army for 40K for sale.  This army belonged to a good friend who is getting out of the hobby and it was painted by my friend Tim at Saguaro Painting.  I am looking to move this collection as an army and not part it out.  I would prefer an Arizona based buyer but for the right price I will ship to the lower 48.  The asking price is $1500 and I am fairly firm on that.  See the list of models and a photo-dump below.

The First Valkyrie is Done

Well, time for some more crappy pictures.  This time we have the first of 5 Valkyries for my Catachan army.  Just a basic repaint and weathering.  I also did the cool jungle base.  Since these all had rather poorly painted cockpits, and come had glue fog anf finger prints as well, I decided to paint over the glass.  It did not come out well in the pictures but the blued out glass looks good in person.  I am using the old GW transfers for these and I had forgotten just how crappy these transfers are.  I dred the next four models...

Imperial Guard Air-Cav

Ever since the release of the current IG codex I have dreamed of doing an Air-Cav list.  The idea of a bunch of Valkyries swooping over the battlefield and dropping troops straight into the battle really appeals to me.  I never really gave it much serious thought, however.  I mean, I am not that big of a 40K nut to drop $300+ just on transports for my army.

When I started to seriously work on my Catachan army a couple of years ago I got a really good deal on an assembled and painted Valkyrie.  I was really excited to add it to the collection and I figured it would be fun to use from time to time.  Today I completed another deal to add four more painted and assembled Valkyries to the army.  I now have five and I really can do a mostly air-mobile force.  Things just got interesting.

I have never paid attention to the web lists and the hardcore tournament scene so I am not sure what the killer build is for this kind of an army (and I don't really care).  I have seen some pictures of Valkyrie heavy forces but I am not real sure what units people take or even if the idea really works.  I think it will work but I don't see it being as tough as a standard Chimera heavy list.  Now that I think about it I probably will never play the list even after I build the army.  I just don't get in too many 40K games any more.

As for the models, they are all good builds and in great shape.  When I had only one Valkyrie I was not too concerned with the paint job.  It looked good.  Now I have 5 models and two completely different looks so something will have to change.  I will probably be spraying these with some Krylon Camo Green and picking out a few details.  The cockpits all look pretty good so I might be taping these off, otherwise I will just paint the glass blue and be done with it.

Anyway, keep an eye out for these.  I am not sure when I will repaint them but I would like to do it soon, before the new wares off.

Just a quick update on the Catachan project.

The Never Ending Catachan Pile

Time for a break from painting Flames of War. I jumped back into my Catachan IG project with some much needed command elements. First are a couple of Commissars. In the old days Catachans used to shoot these guys but I guess now they are OK with them.

Here we have Col. 'Iron Hand' Straken. This is a pretty cool old model and I actually have two of these. I painted one a long time ago to use as a Necromunda character.

These are a bunch of Catachan officer types. These can be army commanders, platoon commanders or even vet sergeants.

Last we have an assortment of old metal Catachans. I am not sure but I think I now have all the original metal models. I need to check one of the collector sites and see what I might be missing.

As if I did not already have enough of these collected, this week I acquired more stuff from a local gamer. With all the painting I have been doing on this army I still have more unpainted than painted. The pile is growing...

Catachan Missile Launcher Teams

I played a few 400 point combat patrol games a couple weeks ago and I discovered my lack of heavy weapon options was a major issue. Since I am planning on lots of patrol level games I decided to go with missile launchers. Missile launchers are the best option for low point games as they can be either anti-tank or anti-personnel.

I have dozens more heavy weapons teams so stay tuned.

More Catachans

I continue to make good progress on my Catachan IG project. This installment has 27 more figures ready to go.

First up is a converted Sgt Harker. This was built with Catachan and Space Marine Scout bits. I think it is a pretty cool take on this character. I did not build this model.

Next we have Catachan Veterans with shotguns. Most of these were built by someone else and have cut-down lasguns as shotguns. The conversions look good. The two with the Necromunda shotguns were built by me a long time ago and I think there were meant to be Necromunda figures.

Next is a selection of special weapons. There is a demo charge, a grenade launcher chick and three converted meltaguns. The metlaguns are made from plastic flamers. These are handy conversions as meltagun models are always in short supply. These were built by my friend Tim several years ago.

Finally we have a bunch of standard troops. Most were acquired already assembled. There are a couple of figures I built using plastic Necromunda bits mixed with Catahan parts and other bits.

This now puts the painted collection well over 100 figures. I got in a few 400 combat patrol games yesterday and the figures looked great on the table even though my game-play left a lot to be desired.

Stay tuned for more. Next up are lots and lots of heavy weapons teams.

Re-based IG Stormtroopers

This is the first of three units of stormtroopers that I am re-basing to use with my Catachan army. I had a hard time making up my mind whether to strip and repaint these figures to more closely match my Catachans or just re-base. In the end laziness won out and I opted for re-basing. I figure as elite troops they would not have to look like the Catachans, besides, these are pretty good paint jobs.

I am making pretty good progress on the project.

Re-based Catachans and Ogryns

I finished up the re-basing of my Catachan Veterans and the Ogryns. These guys now match the rest of the Catachans and this gives me 80 completed Catachans and 6 Ogryns for this project. I still need to re-base my IG Stormtroopers and I have about 30 more Catachans on the paint table. THings are moving along nicely with this little project.
