Warhammer Arcane Ruins

My Finish it February has finished strong with another neglected project completed.  This time we have the Warhammer Arcane Ruins set.  This is an old kit and I am not sure if GW still makes it.  I have had it for many years.  I am not entirely sure how I acquired it but I think this might have been for our Lord of the Rings SBG events and it just never got built.  I assembled and primed this last year but for the last several months it has been sitting on the garage workbench gathering dust.

I think my Finish it February concept has been a success.  I completed 3 old, forgotten projects and make good progress on a 4th.  I also finished one new project at the beginning of the month.  Now I can start on something new with a clear conscience.

Warhammer Age of Sigmar Shattered Dominion Objectives

Finish it February marches on.  The next neglected project completed are the AoS Shattered Dominion Objectives.  I got these at the same time as the Soul Wars set last year.  I built and primed them pretty quickly after I bought them but they then sat for months awaiting completion.  These will be useful for all sorts of fantasy games and some will be used in Sci-Fi games too.  I really like this set.

2nd Battalion, 2nd Regiment Swiss

I started my Napoleonic project for Black Powder almost 8 years ago.  I had really high hopes for this project and I had several friends that had expressed interest in participating.  As time has progressed most of my friends (all but one in fact) have moved on and are not longer interested.  I have persisted, although halfheartedly at best.  With the completion of the 2/2 Swiss Regiment for my French army I now have 8 battalions completed along with 2 guns and one commander.  That is not very good considering that is only one battalion per year.  This has really made me rethink this project.  It is time for me to either put some real effort into getting a usable collection painted or just admit to myself that it is time to let it go.  One of the real problems I have is that I HATE painting Napoleonic figures.  Right up until the unit is based I can't help feeling that they look like crap and it took way to much effort for them to look that way.  Then I base them and I fall in love but not enough to inspire me to paint more.

Anyway, enough whining.  These guys are done and are the first completed project for Finish it February.  It feels good to get these out of the WIP pile and into the collection.  The figures are Warlord plastic French and are very functional figures.

Finish it February

After a very productive January, in both building and painting models, I found myself slipping into a painting slump.  I was unable to find a project that inspired me so I decided I needed to change my approach for February.  "Finish it February" is my new mantra (at least for this month).  The idea is to dig out old, neglected projects and finish them.  No motivation excuses just grab something that is already in progress and get it done.  Now I have  a lot of these kinds of things sitting around so I will have no trouble finding things to work on.  Below are just some items on my paint desk.  I have many more options out in the dead lead pile so this is not all that might get done.  I do not expect to finish all this stuff this month but if I can get a few done then this little experiment will be a success.  The real key to this is no new projects will be started this month and only items where I have already started work will be eligible.  Just because I own it is not a good enough reason to work on it.

This is the 2nd battalion of the 2nd Swiss regiment for my Napoleonic French project.  These are Warlord models and I started these last year and managed to get them primed and started on the base colors.  This is what I am currently working on.

Age of Sigmar objective set that was released last year when the Soul Wars set was released.  I bought these at the same time as the Soul Wars set and started working on the,  Ii managed to assemble them and start on the paint.  I have finished one so far this month and I have these five left.

More Ork items for mu 40K ork army.  The Deffkoptas where started early last year with assembly, conversion and paint as you see them now.  The Weirdboy conversion was started amy years ago my my friend Luke and about 2 years ago I finished the assembly.  Now I just need to finish the paint.

This is the Sigmar priest from the Warhammer Quest Silver Tower set.  I started this guy last month.

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire – Sepulchral Guard

I finished my third warband for Warhammer Underworlds.  This time we have the Sepulchral Guard.  I fell in love with these figures when they were first released, long before I have interest in this game.  They were a joy to paint and their first game was very fun but very different.  These figures will likely see table time in other fantasy games and Age of Sigmar.  You can never have too many cool skeletons.

As usual, the high resolution photos expose flaws that my old eye can't see in the real world.  They look good on the table which is really what its all about.

Bolt Action German Additions

One of my last games of 2018 was a game of Bolt Action against a friend with Soviets.  I though that this game would make a great excuse to get my generic German army on the table again.  This army is old, way older than Bolt Action.  I've had the army for years and used it with tons of different rules but I have not used it in Bolt Action for a very long time.  Well, I was in for a bit of a shock as it was not in the same condition I remembered it being in.  Specifically there were lots of models missing so it was bit of a challenge to put a decent list together for the game.  After the game I resolved to fix this long neglected army by filling in the gaps.

I set out to find some Crusader Miniatures Germans as they are some of my favorite 28mm figures.  I started checking eBay and watched a few auctions as my plan was finalized.  I was still a bit confused as to what had happened to the army and I gradually remembered that I had planed to update the army years ago and had sold off a bunch of figures I did not like.  Then it hit me - if I had forgotten selling stuff off what else had I forgotten.  So I set off to check the dead lead pile to see what I might already have.  And wouldn't you know it, I had basically every pack that I was currently watching on eBay.  It was like I had already worked this out once before.  Damn I hate getting old.

With my newly acquired (but likely 10 year old) stash I miniatures I set out to paint them all up.  I have 35 more Germans for the Bolt Action army.  It is pretty satisfying to have finally completed these.  And yes, they were in the same box as the cavalry and the motorcycles I recently completed.  This now completes all the 28mm Germans in my collection.

Kradschutzen Squad

More items from the dead lead pile all finished up.  This time we have a German Kradschutzen squad for Bolt Action.  I bought these figures at least 12 years ago and they were in the same box as the cavalry figures I finished the other day.  Don't ask me why it took so long to finish these, I really have no idea.  The figures are from Black Tree Designs, which I guess has been renamed again.  They are pretty good game models.  I am really looking forward to trying these on the table.
